Established by the US Congress in 1960, the East-West Center promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, dialogue and research. The Center’s 21-acre Honolulu campus is located midway between Asia and the continental US and features residential, conference, classroom and research facilities. The East-West Center has over fifty years of service as a US-based institution for higher education, research and public diplomacy. The Center serves as a resource for information and analysis on critical issues of common concern, bringing people together to exchange views, build expertise and develop policy options. East-West Center alumni come from all 50 US states and more than 150 countries and territories.
